About the art:
Zodiac was Mucha's first work under his contract with the printer Champenois and was originally designed as an in-house calendar for the company. Alphonse Mucha's "Zodiac" is a vibrant and striking piece of art created in 1896-1897. The artwork is made up of twelve individual panels, each depicting a different astrological sign and accompanied by a female figure in traditional dress. The figures represent the four seasons, and the colors range from deep blues, purples, and reds, to warm yellows and oranges. The figures are surrounded by intricate and detailed floral and geometric designs, providing an interesting and complex visual experience. The piece is a celebration of astrology and the beauty of the natural world.
